Full Moon, also called Purnima or Pournami, is the fifteenth lunar day, as the Moon gets to the final stage of the waxing period of Shukla Paksha. People in North India call it the full moon day Poornima, and South Indians call it pournami. The fasting vrat is called Pournami Vratam , which is observed from sunrise to sunset to the first sighting of the Moon. Purnima cannot be the same for both South and North India. Hence caution about the date is required before starting the Poornima vrat. When is Purnima? Purnima or Pournami is an auspicious day on which the goddess trinity (Goddesses Parvati, Lakshmi, and Saraswathi) or a favorite god is invoked in the prayers and sadhanas of the devout folk.
